Abstract
Up to now many studies of child care have been examined focusing on use of nursery. But besides care center, there is various type of care in early childhood, especially in infancy. This study categorized child care type into various type including care center, other non parental care, and parental care, and analyzed the factors that influence the choice of child care type of households with infant. The findings using the second wave data of Panel Study of Korean Children(PSKC) are as follows. First, the type of parental care is preferred than non-parental care, although parents were well aware that they are provided with large numbers of child-rearing agencies by local communities. Second, the increasing number of other children under six years old in household is positively related to choice of accredited child care center. Third, mother¡¯s employment increases the likelihood of using personal day care. Fourth, rise of household income make it highly probable to choose accredited child care center rather than unaccredited one. Finally, households living in small and medium-size cities compared to those living in big city are more likely to use unaccredited child care center rather than accredited one. Through these findings we can identify that child care center accreditation affects the using of parental care highly, hence it is necessary to consider a means of improving the quality of the child care service by priority.
